An Israeli government minister said Sunday that the decision to approve tenders for homes in the West Bank was done for economic reasons."The Israeli government is working to reduce the cost of living throughout the country," Construction and Housing Minister Uri Ariel said. "No country in the world accepts dictates from other countries as it regards to where it is permitted to build."Ariel was referring to the European Union's decision to halt funding to Israeli institutions that lie beyond the '67 lines."ממשלת ישראל פועלת להורדת יוקר המחייה בכל חלקי מדינת ישראל", אמר שר שיכון אורי אריאל. "אף מדינה בעולם לא מקבלת תכתיבים ממדינות אחרות היכן מותר לה לבנות והיכן לא".
"אנו נמשיך לשווק דירות ולבנות בכל רחבי הארץ, בנגב בגליל ובמרכז, כדי לענות על צרכי כל תושבי מדינת ישראל. זה הדבר הנכון כעת, הן מבחינה ציונית והן מבחינה כלכלית", הוסיף אריאל.
