Palestinian teen arrested for attempting to board light rail with knife

Light rail security guards arrested an unidentified 17-year-old Palestinian male on Thursday morning for attempting to board the Jerusalem tram service armed with a knife. According to police, the suspect aroused the suspicions of guards stationed at the Mount Herzl stop when he behaved strangely as a tram approached.
Upon questioning him, the guards found the man was concealing a knife in his pocket. It was subsequently determined that he was living in Israel illegally. The suspect was placed under arrest and arraigned at Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, police said.
On July 17, Ali Abu Hassan, a 21-year-old Palestinian civil engineering student from the West Bank’s Hebron University, attempted to carry out a mass-casualty bombing attack on the light rail to exact revenge for Jewish visitation to the Temple Mount.
Hassan, from Beit Ila near Hebron, carried three pipe bombs in a bag to Jerusalem’s Jaffa Center stop, which he intended to detonate during the morning rush-hour commute. Alert security guards manning the downtown Jerusalem station arrested him before he could carry out the attack.
