Power cuts may occur in Israel after rains this week

Due to the infrastructural damage from last week’s fires, the Israel Electric Company warned that the country may see power outages as rains begin to pour from Wednesday through the weekend.
Both the exceptionally dry weather conditions from the past few months and the dust and soot that have collected on the transmission lines during the fires may contribute to cuts in electricity supplies, a statement from the IEC said.
“With the first rains, the combination of water with dust and soot accumulated on the power networks can cause malfunctions in the lines, despite the robust maintenance work carried out in preparation for the winter,” the statement added.
Nonetheless, the IEC stressed that the company is fully prepared for winter and urged the public to adhere to safety protocols. Torn electrical wires and unstable trees should be immediately reported to the police or to the IEC at its 103 service center, the statement said. In addition, residents should ensure that objects at risk of being blown off balconies are secured, in order to prevent further damage to power lines.
