The Illinois State House of Representatives passed a piece of legislation on Monday to fight the BDS movement throughout the state. The bipartisan bill passed unanimously. The bill will prohibit all companies participating in the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanction) campaign from receiving state funding for Illinois state pension funds.ICC, Israel on Campus Coalition, pro-Israel organization that empowers campus leaders and encourages collaboration among pro-Israel groups applauded the passage of the bill.Jacob Baime, ICC’s executive director, issued the following statement:“Illinois is the first state to take concrete, legally binding action against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, providing a legislative model for the rest of the country. At its core, the BDS movement is rooted in anti-Semitism and the denial of Israel’s right to exist. Israel on Campus Coalition applauds Illinois for leading the way in the fight against the growing BDS movement.”
