Report: Abbas will hold referendum on peace proposal

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday stressed that any agreement reached with the Israelis will be brought to a referendum.
In an interview at his presidential headquarters in Ramallah, Abbas told Jordanian newspaper Al Rai that if no agreement is reached after the peace push, all options will remain open. Abbas was speaking before US Secretary of State John Kerry's announcement later that day that Israel and the Palestinians were to restart negotiations.
Abbas stated that the "the Unites States is serious in formulating a solution to the Palestinian issue, through introducing a Palestinian state within the 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital."
"We were close to an agreement with Ehud Olmert, but he stumbled in the political arena, and then came Binyamin Netanyahu and the peace process was disrupted," Abbas added.
The president praised the relations between the Jordanian and Palestinian people, and the unlimited support of His Majesty King Abdullah for the Palestinian cause.
