Report: Israel allowed PA to bring in armored jeeps

Neither the Prime Minister’s Office, the Defense Ministry nor the IDF commented Tuesday evening on a Haaretz report that Israel allowed the Palestinian Authority to bring in five armored jeeps from Jordan to deal with a deterioration of the security situation in parts of the West Bank.
According to the report, the jeeps were brought across the Allenby Bridge late Sunday evening after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman gave their approval. The report also said that the US Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Lt.-Gen. Frederick Rudesheim, brokered the arrangement.
Israel has in the past opposed the supply of armored vehicles to the Palestinians, blocking the delivery of some 50 Russian armored personnel carriers in 2009 because they were to be installed with heavy machine guns.
The delivery of the vehicles comes at a time of continued Israeli-Palestinian security coordination, despite a complete lack of any diplomatic process.
