Security forces bust militant hideout, recover huge cache of arms, ammunition in India's Kashmir

In a joint operation of police and army, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from militant hideout in Poonch district of India's northern Jammu and Kashmir state on Tuesday (November 24).The recovery was made in Salani area during a search operation based on a tip-off.The security forces recovered 41 machine guns, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), cylinder bombs, several magazines, one Chinese grenade, two Pakistani currency notes of 50 and 100 denomination, one SIM card, among other things.No arrests have been made in the case.Militant violence remains a problem in Kashmir although levels of violence are down from the levels of the 1990s when an armed revolt against Indian rule erupted.Three militants attacked an army base camp in Kashmir's Tangdhar sector earlier in the day. All three militants were shot down by the security forces. One army personnel suffered injuries in the attack.India accuses Pakistan of training and arming militants, and infiltrating them across the de facto border, called the Line of Control, dividing Kashmir. Pakistan denies those allegations.The South Asian rivals fought two of their three wars since independence in 1947 over Muslim-majority Kashmir, which they both claim in full but rule in part.
