Sewage spilled into a tributary leading to the Kishon River on Sunday near Haifa.The Kishon River Authority said that more than 100 cubic meters worth of waste from Haifa's main sewage line made its way into the Saadia tributary before the leak was discovered. This is the second such incident to affect the notoriously-polluted river in less than a month.
Heavy rainfall on Sunday reportedly caused the system, owned by the Carmel Water Authority, to become overtaxed.Sharon Nasim, the Authority's director, said that the water will remain contaminated for the next few days and called on authorities to replace old sewage pipes to prevent more incidents from happening in the future
