South Korea condemns North’s submarine missile test

South Korea on Sunday denounced North Korea after it fired a missile from a submarine off its east coast, amid concerns that the isolated state might conduct a nuclear test or a missile launch ahead of a rare ruling party meeting in May.
"The (South Korean) government strongly condemns that North Korea test fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile off its east coast near Sinpo around 6:30 p.m. (local time) (0930GMT) on April 23, 2016," said South Korea's foreign ministry spokesman Cho June-hyuck.
The missile flew for about 30 km (18 miles), a South Korean Defense Ministry official said late on Saturday, adding that its military was trying to determine whether the launch may have been a failure for unspecified reasons.
"The government has warned several times that North Korea would face a tougher and stronger international response if it makes further provocations. So we will take necessary measures in Security Council while closely cooperating with main countries, and will put more efforts into faithfully implementing the Security Council resolution, enforcing the sanctions against North Korea and putting pressure on it," Cho added.
