The State Attorney's Office on Tuesday defended the state's policy not to forcefully enlist haredim to the IDF, pending final legislation on the issue.The comments came during a High Court discussion of petitions calling for the enforcement of haredi enlistment and for cutting funding for yeshivas that host army age haredim that do not enlist.
The high court is debating the enforcement of the new mandatory recruitment legislation in the wake of the "Tal Law" expiration in july 2012. The Tal Law allowed yeshiva students to legally defer national service for religious studies.
