Think tank: Israel ranked 'high' risk of defense corruption

Israel is reportedly at high risk of corruption, with the door open to waste, impunity and security threats in the defense sector, because of the lack of systems and will to prevent corruption, a report launched by Transparency International UK’s Defense and Security Program showed.
The index measures how governments prevent and counter corruption in defense, and placed Israel in Band "D" at high risk of corruption alongside Kuwait, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Government Defense Anti-Corruption Index analyzed what 82 countries do to reduce corruption risks.
The report concluded that while formal provisions for legislative oversight of defense policy do exist in the form of a permanent Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, it is recognised that the Ministry of Defense in Israel is reluctant to cooperate fully with these processes.
The report comes in the wake of the Turkel Commission findings, which also advocated greater transparency among the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
