A police officer shot Shirel Havura dead after Havura stabbed him in the leg in Rosh Ha'ayin on Thursday, according to Israeli media.
Havura’s parents asked for police help when their 30-year-old son told them he planned on killing the family’s pets.

The family called police and an officer told them that nothing could be done until their son began to exhibit violent behavior. Havura then allegedly went into the house and emerged with a knife and attacked the officer, stabbing him in his leg.
According to Havura’s father, the officer panicked and shot his son with all the bullets in his clip. Havura’s sister ran to him and shielded him from the officer who allegedly changed clips and was about to shoot again, Ynet reported.

The officer is reportedly in light condition.
United Hatzalah  volunteer EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene of a shooting, which took place on HaMaharits Street, a press release on behalf of United Hatzalah reported.
"Together with other EMS personnel who arrived at the scene I treated a man...who had suffered a gunshot wound," said United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Yoav Shemaryahu. "We performed CPR on the man at the scene and he was transported to Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikvah.”

Havura succumbed to his injuries and died at Beilinson Hospital. His father told Ynet that his son had been suffering from mental issues for a while and the family attempted to have him committed, but were refused because Havura was not violent.

“Our [health] systems are awful, one person tossed me to another person and nobody cares,” Havura’s mother said.  She claimed she turned to the police during Independence Day and begged to have her son committed.

Police forces, including members from the Department for Internal Investigations, are at the scene investigating the incident.
