UK defense ministry pays out millions in bonuses

UK defense ministry pays

The British government says bureaucrats at the Ministry of Defense have received bonuses of over 47 million pounds ($78 million) in the last seven months. Defense Secretary Kevan Jones said Wednesday that the money was divided among 50,000 employees and most received less than 1,000 pounds each. The money was paid out between April to October - most of the defense ministry's annual bonuses are paid in August. Jones revealed the data in response to a question from opposition law maker Liam Fox in Parliament. The Ministry of Defense has been criticized in Britain for sending troops to fight in Afghanistan without proper equipment.
