Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan told Army Radio on Thursday that "the US State Department has traditionally been hostile to Israel."Erdan made the remarks in reaction to a comment by a State Department spokesperson who said on Wednesday that "we've certainly seen some reports of what many would consider excessive use of force [by Israel]" in its handling of a spate of Palestinian knifing attacks in Jerusalem and other cities."Obviously we don't like to see that," the spokesman, John Kirby, said. The remark was reported widely in the Israeli press, prompting the media to ask the Israeli government for its reaction.
