Woman throws shoe at Eilat judge during hearing

A woman threw a shoe at an Eilat judge during a hearing on Tuesday for a charge of domestic violence against her partner, Southern District police said in a statement.
Police said the incident happened while the woman, who is in her 20s, was at a hearing where the state was pushing to have her kept in custody until the end of her trial for domestic abuse. After she was brought into the courtroom the woman took off one of her shoes and threw it towards the judge, who was not hit.
The woman was immediately taken from the courtroom by security and taken for questioning by police.
In 2010, a man who threw a shoe at then Israel chief justice Dorit Beinisch during a hearing was sentenced to the maximum term of three years in prison.
The presiding judge said the harsh penalty was meant to deter future attacks on judges.
The shoe thrown by Pini Cohen hit Beinisch between the eyes, knocking her to the floor.
