Japanese telecom giant invests $100m. in Israeli cybersecurity firm

Cyberreason's advanced technology have protected scores of companies from advanced attacks, including the recent and global WannaCry Ransoware attack.

Israeli cybersecurity firm Cybereason has raised $100 million from Japanese telecommunications giant SoftBank Corp., the company announced on Wednesday.

Cybereason secured SoftBank’s investment in the firm’s fourth financing round, bringing total investments to for the past two years to $189m. Based in Boston, with a research and development center in Tel Aviv and offices in London and Tokyo, Cybereason provides automated cyber-attack endpoint detection and response.

“We are thrilled with our incredible growth but we are never satisfied because hackers still have a big advantage over the vast majority of corporations,” Cybereason cofounder and CEO Lior Div said. “This new funding allows us to increase our growth through new distribution channels and to develop new technologies. Our strengthened partnership with SoftBank, which has a formidable sales force and enterprise customer base in Japan and a global reach, will also enable us to further expand our presence in the cybersecurity market.”

Founded by veterans of the IDF’s elite intelligence unit 8200, Cybereason also offers next-generation antivirus and managed monitoring services. The company’s interface provides businesses with a custom, built-in memory graph, which automatically detects behavioral patterns across every endpoint and surfaces malicious operations, according to the firm.

“Cybereason’s products are truly amazing,” SoftBank president and CEO Ken Miyauchi said. “SoftBank tested a number of cybersecurity products from all over the world, but Cybereason’s products are by far better than those of their competitors. We strongly believe Cybereason will be one of the global leaders in cybersecurity.”

The company’s cybersecurity technology and monitoring services have protected hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies from highly advanced attacks, including, most recently, the global WannaCry Ransomware attack, a statement from the firm said.
