Israeli car automation company Mobileye was picked as the sixth-most innovative company in the world by the MIT Technology Review on Tuesday. In a world where tech giants such as Google and Uber are looking toward driverless cars, it’s difficult for other companies to compete, the magazine noted.“One increasingly popular option is to partner with Mobileye, which makes machine vision systems and motion detection algorithms that warn drivers when they are deviating from driving lanes or about to collide with cars in front of them,” it wrote.Mobileye, it continued, is working with the likes of Audi, BMW, GM, Nissan, Tesla, Volkswagen and Volvo on autopilot and collision avoidance, and working on all-out autonomous cars as well. The company’s products, which use sensors to detect what’s going on around a car, are able to recognize road signs, tracks separating the lanes, barriers and, of course, other cars. With an estimated 93% of road accidents attributable to human error, Mobileye is poised to save many lives.
