Following his suspension from the Green Party, anti-Zionist Jewish activist Tony Greenstein told The Jerusalem Post that he will “fight the spurious allegations” and seek to retain his membership.

The Green Party suspended Greenstein last week, citing his “documented history of antisemitism, including recent terrorism charges.”

Greenstein, however, disputed the accusation of “antisemitism,” telling the Post that it is “particularly offensive when directed at Jewish anti-Zionists, and it’s losing its effectiveness.”

“Genuine antisemites have never had a problem with Zionism,” he said. “For two years running, Amichai Chikli has organized a conference on ‘fighting antisemitism,’ and who did he invite? The world’s antisemites.

“Anyone who has any knowledge of Zionist history knows that Zionism was greeted, when it first emerged, as a form of Jewish antisemitism by most Jews. The antisemites wanted us out of their countries, and Zionism agreed.”

He hypothesized that his suspension resulted from him being the “most prominent of the Jewish anti-Zionists who joined the Green Party.”

“I don’t complain about being singled out. I hope that the process stops with me since it is contrary to natural justice and the facts,” he added.

He went on to say that the accusation of antisemitism against supporters of the Palestinians and anti-Zionists is the “only defense Israel and Zionism has to the charge of genocide and human rights abuses.”

“The breach of all human rights of the Palestinians is so egregious, with the latest being the reinstatement into the army of rapists and the routine use of torture against Palestinian prisoners, that ‘antisemitism’ doesn’t wash any longer,” he said, adding that “accusing anti-racists of antisemitism means that genuine Jew-haters are given cover.”

[Editor’s note: None of Greenstein’s accusations here have been proven. While external bodies, such as the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, have claimed the IDF uses such methods (see March 2025 report), the IDF categorically rejects this. The IDF stressed that it has concrete directives, procedures, orders, and policies, which unequivocally prohibit such misconduct, and claimed that the UN used “unsubstantiated information to support a predetermined narrative.”]

Greenstine concluded by saying that he is “anti-Zionist” because he is “an internationalist, a socialist, and an anti-racist.”

Jewish Green Party anti-Zionist activist previously expelled from Labour over antisemitism allegations

He is a founding member of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. He was also formerly a member of the Labour Party before his expulsion in 2018 over allegations of antisemitism.

Greenstein also received a nine-month suspended prison sentence in September 2023 after attacking an Elbit Systems factory with Palestine Action. He was also charged with a terrorism offense under the Terrorism Act 2000 for allegedly tweeting his support of Hamas on November 15, 2023. Hamas is banned in the UK.

(Greenstein told the Post that he doesn’t support Hamas politically but “acknowledges that it is a resistance organization, not a terrorist group.”)

He then joined the Green Party in March 2026.

According to exclusive details revealed by the Canary, Greenstein’s suspension was approved 11 votes to 1.

In an email to the Green Party, Greenstein wrote that he “predicted” that lies and smears would begin against him after he weighed in on the Green Party’s “Zionism is Racism” debate. This, as previously covered by the Post, involved a motion that would have ruled Zionism as racism within the party.

The motion was, however, sabotaged via filibustering at the recent party conference and therefore was never voted on – to Greenstein’s chagrin. He soon after wrote an article called “The only form of racism that matters is Zionism racism.”

Greenstein did acknowledge that he has an upcoming trial date on August 18 under the Terrorism Act 2000 but said he is pleading “not guilty.”

“There is no basis to my suspension,” he said, adding that the party is “acting on behalf of supporters of the Gaza genocide.”
