A campaign on social media networks in Egypt has been promoting the popular TV drama House of Cards' star, Kevin Spacey, as the next president of Egypt. Spacey played the character Frank Underwood on the television series about an American congressman who uses ruthless tactics to maintain a position of power and contribute to the 'greater good.'The now viral campaign on media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter advertised "al-Spacey" as a challenger to Egypt's former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who is expected by many to win the elections this month in a landslide.Pictures and promotional media have even circulated online promoting the Hollywood star with phrases like, "Long live Egypt. Kevin al-Spacey for President of Egypt."Spacey has in the past commented on the political situation in Egypt. In February 201l, after a revolution in Egypt brought about the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak, Spacey, who was at the time attending the Berlin International Film Festival, said, "While I'm excited to be here this evening, nothing is as exciting as what's going on this evening in Egypt."Elections are scheduled to take place in Egypt on May 26 and 27. Polls currently indicate a vast lead for Sisi who faces only a single opponent, Hamdeen Sabahi.
