Lights at the Acropolis and other landmarks in Greece's capital were switched off for 10 minutes Tuesday to mark the United Nations' World Environment Day.
Lights also went out at 10:00 p.m. (1900GMT) at government buildings, parliament and Athens' City Hall as well as the city's Lykabettus Hill.
Campaign coordinator Kritonas Arsenis said tens of thousands of Greek households also joined the conservation effort.
