'Cyprus: Lebanese man planned attacks on Israelis'

Police in Cyprus detained a Lebanese man suspected of planning a terror attack against Israeli targets on the island, possibly an Israeli airplane, AFP reported Saturday, citing Cypriot media.According to the reports, the young Lebanese man was found carrying a Saudi passport and had notes with details about Israeli airplanes.The man, whose identity and arrest have not been confirmed by officials in Cyprus, reportedly had his remand extended by one week on Friday. He was arrested last week, according to AFP.An online news site in Cyprus said foreign intelligence services tipped contacted local police about the man. Police were reportedly investigating whether there were other people involved in the plot.Israel and Cyprus cooperate in areas of natural gas drilling and exploration as well as in military and naval exercises. The cooperation has irked Turkey, which especially views the drilling as threatening to it and Turkish northern Cyprus's resources and interests.
