'Surfer rabbi' joins EDL march against UK 'Islamification'

California state senate candidate and Tea Party activist Rabbi Nachum Shifren joined a march organized by the far right group the English Defence League Sunday outside the Israeli Embassy in London. At the march, rally supporters expressed their goal to prevent the "Islamification" of the United Kingdom and show support for the Jewish State.Shifren, known as the "surfing rabbi," is running in the November elections to represent the district of west Los Angeles in the state senate.RELATED:'Tea Party’s Christian ties will alienate Jewish voters''Republican Congress candidate reenacted Nazi battles'Opinion: Visigoths at the gate?The EDL invited the Orthodox rabbi to speak about Sharia law in London this month, the Guardian reported two weeks ago.EDL's links with the Tea Party movement surfaced a day after roughly 1,000 EDL supporters demonstrated in Leicester, which boasts a large Muslim population, according to the Guardian.The Tea Party is expected to be an influential player in the upcoming midterm elections in the US.Shifren said at the time of that report that Britain's Jewish community should support the EDL."The Jewish community is paralyzed with fear, exactly what most radical Muslim agitators want," he said. "The people of England are in the forefront of this war – and it is a war. One of the purposes of this visit is to put the kibosh on the notion in the Jewish community that they cannot co-operate with the EDL, which is rubbish."
