On Sunday Iran inaugurated an indigenously manufactured Jamaran 2 destroyer in the Caspian Sea. This follows strong words by Brig.- Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, the deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, who said on Saturday that its commanders are authorized to respond immediately to enemy attacks.President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was present at the launch of the advanced destroyer ship near the northern port city of Bandar, according to Press TV.He said that Iran’s forces in the area are “aimed at strengthening friendship, establishing security for all, and confronting extremism and those who intend to disturb the security of nations as well as the Caspian Sea,” according to the Iranian report.“Our commanders have received authorization to immediately respond to any hostile action by the enemy without allowing the enemy to think twice [about its act of aggression],” Jazayeri said, according to a report on Iranian Press TV.The report said the remarks were in response to comments by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that sanctions and negotiations are not enough to stop Iran, but must be backed up with a credible threat of force.“The era of threat, intimidation and childish games of carrot and stick is over,” Jazayeri said according to the report.
