Mavi Marmara 2: New aid flotilla to sail from Turkey to 'break siege' of Gaza - report

The flotilla itself is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), a group of 12 NGOs from countries such as the US, Turkey, and South Africa, and should leave for Gaza on Monday.

Turkey is set to send a flotilla to Gaza on Monday, bringing 5,500 tons of aid to "break the siege" on the Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported on Sunday. 

The flotilla itself is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), a group of 12 NGOs from countries such as the US, Turkey, and South Africa. 

The organization is backed by Fehmi Bulent Yildirim, a Turkish humanitarian activist and president of the Turkish NGO IHH. In a press conference, Yildirim said the flotilla will include ships from Turkey, Lebanon, and Libya and will sail to Rafah after first docking at El-Arish in Egypt, Ynet reported.

Russia calls for restraint after Iranian strikes on Israel

Russia said on Sunday it was extremely concerned by Iranian strikes on Israel and called on all parties to exercise restraint but said tensions would remain high until the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians was resolved.

"We express our extreme concern over another dangerous escalation in the region," Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement on the Iranian attacks. "We call on all parties involved to exercise restraint."

UAE calls for end of escalation to avoid regional repercussions

The United Arab Emirates called for the exercise of the utmost restraint to avoid dangerous repercussions in the Middle East, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

The UAE also called for resolving conflicts through dialog and diplomatic channels.

Iran launched missiles and drones at Israel overnight in retaliation for a suspected Israeli air strike on Iran's embassy compound in Damascus on April 1, raising the threat of a wider regional conflict.

Hamas says Iran's attack on Israel was 'natural right'

The Palestinian Islamist terror organization Hamas, which has been locked in a war with Israel in Gaza for more than six months, defended Iran's attack on Israel that began on Saturday.

"We in Hamas regard the military operation conducted by the Islamic Republic of Iran a natural right and a deserved response on the crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus and the assassination of several leaders of the Revolutionary Guards," said Hamas in a statement.

Tehran's attacks late on Saturday, launched after a suspected Israeli airstrike on its embassy compound in Damascus on April 1 that killed officers of the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps raised the threat of a wider regional conflict.

Most of the Iranian drones flying over Syria's airspace during Iran's strikes overnight were downed by Israeli and US jets before reaching their targets in Israel, two Western intelligence sources said on Sunday.

They told Reuters the aerial interceptions shot down dozens of missiles and drones fired by Iran that flew above southern Syria in the Deraa province, the Syrian Golan Heights, and several locations in eastern Syria along the border with Iraq.

IDF pours cold water on reports of Gazans returning north

Palestinian women and children moved to return to the north of the Gaza Strip on Sunday morning, according to Israeli media, citing Palestinian sources. 

According to the sources, the IDF authorized women and children to move from the south of the Strip to the north.  

Later on Sunday, the IDF Spokesperson released a statement denying the rumors and stating the reports were baseless. "The reports that the IDF allowed the return of residents to the north of the Gaza Strip are false.

"The IDF will not allow the return of residents either through the Salah a-Din axis or through the Rashid axis. The northern area of the Gaza Strip is still a combat zone, and it will not be possible to return to it at all," the statement added.

The IDF base of Nevatim sustained minor damage following hits during the Iranian attack early Sunday morning, the military said on Sunday morning.

The military added that the base was still operational and functioning. 

Later on Sunday, the IDF published footage of Israeli jets returning to the Nevatim base.
