Who is Hashem Safieddine, Hezbollah's possible new leader?
Safieddine is a cousin of Nasrallah and, like him, a cleric who wears a black turban denoting descent from Islam's Prophet Mohammed.
Israel, on Friday, allegedly targeted Hashem Safieddine, the man widely regarded as the likely successor of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Nasrallah, who led the group for 32 years, was killed in a strike in Beirut last month. It now faces the challenge of choosing a new leader after the heaviest pounding the group has faced in its 42-year-old history.

For comparison, 1,032 significant attacks were thwarted in 2023, and 472 significant attacks were prevented in 2022.
