Biden: We have no higher priority than freeing the hostages

US President Joe Biden pledged to do everything possible to secure the release of over 200 people held hostage by Hamas in Gaza, including some US citizens.

“There is no higher priority than the release and safe return of all these hostages,” Biden said during a one-day solidarity mission to Israel.

US President Joe Biden accepted IDF evidence that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad was responsible for the explosion at Gaza hospital that likely killed hundreds late Wednesday night.

“I was deeply saddened and outraged by the explosion in Gaza yesterday,” Biden said, but explained that he understood that Israel had not attacked the hospital.

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that Egyptians in their millions would reject the forced displacement of Palestinians into Sinai, adding that any such move would turn the peninsula into a base for attacks against Israel.

The Gaza Strip is effectively under Israeli control and Palestinians could instead be moved to Israel's Negev desert "till the militants are dealt with", Sisi told a joint news conference in Cairo with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

At least seven British nationals have been killed and at least nine are missing since Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an attack on Israel, a spokesperson for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Wednesday.

"I can sadly confirm that at least seven British nationals have been tragically killed," the spokesperson told reporters. "A further nine British nationals are missing, some of whom are feared to be among the dead."
