The Israeli death toll from Hamas's attacks on the country has surpassed 1,200, the IDF confirmed on Wednesday. The IDF also confirmed that the number of wounded from the attacks are around 2,700.
The news came several hours after US President Joe Biden indicated such a spike during his speech on Tuesday evening, although it had not been confirmed.
The IDF said Hamas had fired over 4,500 rockets towards Israel since the start of the war. In response, Israel has targeted 2,329 sites in Gaza so far.

Why is it taking so long to get accurate numbers of deaths?
KAN legal affairs correspondent Avishai Grinzaig explained that "not all the bodies have arrived at the center where the identities of the dead are determined."
He said that the number is continuously rising "because we also have to understand how many people we are talking about. This really was a massacre in the south. It takes time."
He added that "the State of Israel has never dealt with this many deaths at once, and so people that already understand that those close to them have been murdered are still waiting for the official confirmation."
