Israel Police opened an investigation into a shooting in Jaffa that targeted a 33-year-old man on Monday night, the police said on Tuesday morning.
After conducting searches at the scene of the incident, police officers located an M16 rifle and a magazine filled with ammunition, seizing them both.
The man was seriously wounded in the incident and was evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment, the police said.
Initial police investigations indicate that the incident was criminal in nature.
The full circumstances are under investigation, the police stated.
Other shooting incidents in Jaffa recorded earlier this year
There have been several other shooting incidents in the central Israeli city this year.
In March, a man was fatally shot, and his son was injured, when an unknown assailant opened fire on a local street kiosk, Israel Police said at the time.
Another shooting occured in January on the city's Jerusalem Boulevard.
One victim was moderately wounded in that incident, police said at the time.
Both instances were also criminal in nature, police confirmed.

Meanwhile, Israel Police and Border Police officers discovered a weapons cache in Arrabe in the Lower Galilee, police said on Tuesday.
The police found the cache during a Monday operation in Arrabe, uncovering five explosives, two M16 rifles, three handguns, ammunition, and substances believed to be narcotics.
Police arrested four suspects during the operation. The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
