A woman in her 30s was killed, and four others were injured, during a shooting in Ramle on Monday morning, Israel Police said, adding that the suspect, a relative of some of those injured, has been arrested.
The woman had been evacuated in critical condition while receiving CPR to Shamir Medical Center in Tzrifin by Magen David Adom (MDA), where she was declared dead.
Two other women, one in her 50s in serious condition and another in her 30s in moderate-to-serious condition, were also evacuated to Shamir.
A fourth woman was lightly injured by shrapnel. There is no information about the status of the fifth woman who was injured.
According to Israeli public broadcaster KAN News, the incident started inside the shooter's home. When the victim attempted to flee, the shooter opened fire indiscriminately near the local market, injuring the other women.
Incident ruled as criminal
"We are examining whether the incident began as a criminal incident and continued as a terrorist incident," Israel Police spokesman, Deputy Chief Arieh Doron, told KAN.
However, shortly afterward, Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levi confirmed at the scene that the incident was criminally motivated.
"We received several reports of people injured in a violent incident," said MDA paramedic Ofir Shish and MDA EMTs Abd Issawi, Nur Hasuna, and Moshe Kot. "We arrived at the scene quickly with a large force and were led to the injured who suffered from penetrating injuries."
"We provided them with initial medical treatment and urgently evacuated them to the hospital."
This is a developing story.
