A Jerusalem man in his 60s was arrested after a complaint was filed over alleged threats to harm National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel Police said on Sunday.

According to the police, the complaint was filed earlier Sunday by a civilian who said the suspect had spoken with him by phone and made a threat against the elected official during the call.

Upon receiving the complaint, Judea and Samaria District Police opened an investigation and notified additional security officials, police said.

A short time later, officers located the suspect, and he was detained and transferred for questioning at the Hebron police station on suspicion of making threats.

Ben-Gvir has previously faced security threats

Ben-Gvir has previously been the subject of reported threats and alleged plots, including a Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and police joint announcement in September 2025 regarding an explosive drone plot targeting him.

Interrogations revealed that a terror cell planned to assassinate Ben-Gvir during a visit to Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs using an explosive drone, but abandoned the plan after a partially successful test run.

They had received funding from Hamas officials based in Turkey, which they used to purchase two drones, which they equipped with explosives, as well as a laptop for a total of approximately $2,000.
