The Jerusalem Post’s historic front page today is dedicated to a congratulatory message from Ronald S. Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, to the president of Argentina, who lit one of the Independence Day torches this evening.

This is a day that will be remembered for generations. The president of Argentina is the first non-Israeli and non-Jewish leader ever to light an Independence Day Torch.

WJC President Lauder said: “On behalf of the World Jewish Congress, I extend my warmest congratulations to President Javier Milei on this historic visit to Israel. Your decision to stand with the Jewish state and the Jewish people – and to take part in lighting a torch on Israel Independence Day –is a powerful symbol of friendship, shared values, and moral clarity.”

President Milei’s visit also highlights the deep friendship between Israel and Argentina. The ties between these two nations have been further solidified by the signing of the Isaac Accords, a new strategic framework aimed at strengthening cooperation between Argentina, Israel, and like-minded partners in the Western Hemisphere, and the relocation of the embassy to Jerusalem.

A true friend has come to Israel—and this is our way of marking this historic moment.
