Danon speaks at UN about missiles that fall on his home … literally

Danon said that he spoke at the Security Council session about Mishmeret, and stressed that this was literally – not just figuratively – an attack on his home.

WASHINGTON – Israel’s Ambassador Danny Danon’s words at the UN Security Council against the Hamas missile attack on Monday on Moshav Mishmeret had more pathos than usual on Tuesday for one simple reason: the agricultural village is his home.
“We have lived there for the last 14 years,” Danon, Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations, said in a brief phone conversation just after the Security Council session. “I raised my children there.”
In fact, the son of the Wolfs – whose destroyed home was just down the street from his own – was Danon’s son’s judo instructor.
Danon said he spoke at the Security Council session about Mishmeret, and stressed that this was literally – not just figuratively – an attack on his home.
Danon said he sensed that by personalizing the story – that this was not just another rocket falling on another city, but rather his own – his argument had a greater impact.
He turned to the German ambassador, who had suggested a dialogue between Danon and Palestinian Authority UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour, and asked how he would feel or react if Berlin was targeted.
