Hezbollah on Tuesday fired a surface-to-air missile against an air force fighter jet, the IDF confirmed.
The IDF referred to the "missile" as a primitive level weapon that missed the fighter jet.
However, the simple fact that Hezbollah has used such a weapon, which could potentially strike an Israeli fighter jet, could have major significance going forward.
Until now, the air force had complete air supremacy, with essentially no threats to the safety of fighter jets.
Incident may alter all future IAF operations
If Hezbollah now has even primitive hand-held bazookas which can shoot down fighter jets, this could alter how all air force operations occur going forward.
Alternatively, this could be a one-time incident with little follow-up impact.
In any case, the IDF said that the air force followed up with firing on the Hezbollah fighter who fired the missile as he sought to escape on a motorcycle.
It was unclear if the Hezbollah operative was killed.
