A terrorist infiltration warning was lifted in Ofarim in the West Bank shortly after sirens sounded on Sunday morning, following the arrest of a suspected car thief who breached a checkpoint at the entrance to the settlement.
According to the IDF, a suspected car thief broke through the checkpoint while attempting to flee security forces. Once entering the settlement, the suspect exited the vehicle and tried to escape but was apprehended by security forces dispatched to the scene.
According to a KAN News report, the suspect was shot in the lower body by security forces during the chase.
After being apprehended and arrested, the suspect was transferred to Israel Police for further investigation into the incident, the military stated.
IDF dispatched to suspected breach at Kibbutz Zikim
Earlier on Saturday, IDF forces were dispatched in response to a similar incident in Kibbutz Zikim near the Gaza border after a breach in the Kibbutz’s fence was detected.
According to KAN, the IDF discovered a hole cut in the fence but was unable to determine when the hole was made and did not locate any suspicious individuals or activity in the area.
KAN also reported that no evidence of any individuals crossing from Gaza into Israel was identified.
