Police officers were attacked by dozens of men after arresting a Jewish Israeli suspect who assaulted officers during a weapons seizure near the Israeli settlement of Kochav Hashahar, in the northern West Bank, on Sunday.
Police said the suspect began attacking officers who were at the scene to seize a weapons cache found in the area. He injured a number of officers before being arrested.
Following his arrest, some 50 individuals arrived at the scene and began disrupting police activity, surrounding the officers and eventually causing the suspect to escape.
Law enforcement launched a manhunt to locate the attackers, and bomb disposal experts were called to the scene to neutralize the seized arms.
Appeal rejected to lower house arrest restrictions for settler suspected of attacking Palestinians
The incident comes as an appeal by IDF Central Command chief Maj.-Gen. Avi Bluth to lower house arrest restrictions against settler Tal Yinon Dardik was rejected by the Jerusalem District Court.
Dardik, suspected of involvement in attacks against Palestinians and other nationalist-motivated offenses, was ordered to remain under full house arrest for six months at his mother-in-law’s home, with Dardik claiming she would not consent to him staying.
He was later charged with six counts of violating a lawful order after refusing to comply with the house arrest order.
