“Who cares?” Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon mysteriously tweeted Monday morning, with no context. The answer was soon to follow, when his Kulanu Party launched a campaign that said “only Kahlon cares.” The slogan is expected to be emblazoned on billboards, online and in newspapers. The message behind the new campaign is that for years there were other finance ministers who did not do as much for the public good as Kahlon did.“Everyone knew,” Kahlon said in a video released by the campaign. “Everyone knew that housing prices soared for a decade, before we lowered them. Everyone knew that minimum wage was too low and workers were taken advantage of, until we raised it and stopped contract work. Everyone knew that young, middle-class families could not make it through the month, until we launched our family program.”Kahlon concludes that the reason his predecessors did not solve these problems is that they did not care.“We do care, and we are only getting started,” he said. The campaign listed various programs Kahlon promoted, including savings accounts for all children and subsidized housing lotteries, adding that his work benefited Israelis from birth until old age.
