With Israel’s ties with certain segments of American Jewry strained because of prayer arrangements at the Western Wall and the conversion issue, Sara Greenberg, currently involved in a project at the Diaspora Affairs ministry, informed friends that she will soon be assuming the position as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s adviser “for world communities.”Greenberg, originally from Philadelphia, has been working on a collaborative project between the Diaspora Affairs Ministry and private philanthropies called Shalom Corps, which is an idea for a type of Israeli “peace corps” to needy communities in Israel and around the Diaspora. She sent out an email last week saying that she “recently accepted a position to be the Advisor to the Prime Minister of Israel for World Communities,” and will “be starting in this new role next week.”Netanyahu’s top foreign policy adviser Jonathan Schachter currently also serves as his adviser on Diaspora affairs. It was not immediately clear whether Greenberg would be assisting Schachter or taking this role on herself. The Prime Minister’s Office, when asked about the appointment, said there is nothing to announce at this point.Greenberg has a bachelor’s degree from Yale in economics and a joint master’s degree from Harvard’s Business School and its Kennedy School of Government.
