The condition of former prime minister Ariel Sharon improved dramatically on Tuesday morning, although he was still listed in serious condition.
Sharon was transferred out of intensive care and back to the respiratory rehabilitation department at the Sheba Medical Center.
Doctors observed a noticeable improvement in his kidney function and double pneumonia.
Sharon's condition had declined earlier this month after he developed the pneumonia in both lungs.
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of Sharon's brain produced "more severe findings," while his urine function "declined significantly."
Hospital deputy director-general Dr. Yitzhak Zeides declined to define Sharon's condition as critical.
The multi-disciplinary Sheba team taking care of the 78-year-old former prime minister decided to administer powerful antibiotics and steroids to halt the speedy decline.
Sharon has been hospitalized since suffering two severe strokes in early January.
