Iran conveyed its conditions for ending hostilities with the United States through Qatari mediators, Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told state media IRNA on Tuesday, during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly.
According to Baghaei, the conditions and negotiation process were not new, but had already been communicated to the US earlier this week.
Iran's positions on the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional security remained unchanged, he said, and Iran's presence at the UNGA allowed it to convey these stances more clearly and explicitly to US diplomats.
Among the conditions for ending the war, Baghaei said, were a complete end to the US's aggression, naval blockade, and sanctions, as well as the release of frozen assets belonging to Iran.
Baghaei also spoke about US President Donald Trump's speech at the UNGA, saying that it consisted of repetitive claims and accusations.
"Indeed, the prevailing impression among diplomats and delegations from many countries was that these words stemmed not from strength, but from desperation," he claimed, adding, "Threatening a country with military attack amounts to an admission regarding the nature of the current US administration and an admission of committing international crimes."
Trump denounces Iran in UNGA address
During his UNGA speech, Trump denounced the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling it "the number one sponsor of terror," and "the bully of the Middle East."
"From the first day I entered the political arena, I have been unwavering," Trump said. "I will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon."
He said that, "As a result of Operation Epic Fury, all 159 ships of their navy are now lying at the bottom of the sea. Likewise, their air force is gone, their radar is gone, their anti-aircraft equipment is gone, their missiles and drone manufacturing capacity is almost gone."
He also threatened Iran, saying, "Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before, maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world? Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?"
