Four explosions were heard on Iran's Qeshm Island on Sunday evening, according to Iranian state media outlet IRNA.
IRNA reported that a correspondent on the island said that some areas of Qeshm appear to have been struck by projectiles.
The source and nature of the explosions have not yet been confirmed.
On Saturday evening, explosions were also heard on Qeshm Island, in addition to Sirik, Bandar Abbas, and Jask Port.
Over the weekend, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the US conducted a “minor strike” on Qeshm Island.
A similar, limited strike on Qeshm Island was also carried out on November 3. A US official told The Jerusalem Post at the time that the strike was ordered in response to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempting to target an American aircraft with a missile launched from the island.
Trump says return to war with Iran 'highly unlikely'
Trump said on Sunday, however, that it is “highly unlikely” that the US will return to full-blown war with Iran if progress is made in ongoing indirect negotiations.
“It depends on whether or not they sign a very strong agreement,” Trump said during an interview with CNN. “The answer is highly unlikely [that] it’s going to be necessary… I would if necessary, but we hit them really hard.”
Trump emphasized that American military forces are ready to act against Iran if he does decide to order strikes, saying that a third “fully locked and loaded” US aircraft carrier strike group recently arrived in the region.
