A leader of the Islamic State in Somalia was killed in a United States airstrike, US military officials said on Monday.Abdulhakim Dhuqub was a senior leader of the extremist group in the region. According to a statement by the US Africa Command, he was responsible for the daily operations of the organization, attack planning and resource procurement.The strike was conducted in coordination with the Somali government. It targeted a vehicle near Xiriiro, a village in the Bari Region, on Sunday. No civilians were killed or injured in the operation.“We continue to work with our Somali partners to keep pressure on the al-Shabaab and ISIS Somalia terror networks," said Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Gregg Olson, U.S. Africa Command director of operations.
