EU states to UNSC: Razing homes in Wadi Hummus violates Oslo

The Israeli demolition of 12 West Bank Palestinian structures in Wadi Hummus violates the Oslo Accords, five European members of the United Nations Security Council and an incoming member state said on Tuesday."We remain seriously concerned by the continued demolition of Palestinian property by Israeli authorities,” ambassadors from the nations said in a statement. Such action “is contrary to international humanitarian law and UN Security Council resolutions.”The five nations are Belgium, Germany, England, France and Poland. Estonia also took part in the condemnation.They spoke at a media stake out on the sidelines of the UNSC meeting on the Middle East in New York.“The demolitions were particularly egregious as a number of the buildings were located in Areas A and B, under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority according to the Oslo Agreements, and thus constitute a violation of those agreements,” the ambassadors said.“They set a dangerous precedent that directly jeopardizes the two-state solution,” they added.The statement was read out by UK Ambassador to the UN Karen Pierce. Ambassadors from Belgium, France, Germany, Poland and Estonia stood by her side.Pierce also spoke out against Israeli settlement activity and outpost authorizations. She warned Israel not to annex any West Bank territory, stating that such a move “could not pass unchallenged.”
