Hebrew U hits record number of doctoral grads

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem announces it will be awarding a record number of 375 doctorates at upcoming graduation.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced on Thursday that it will be awarding a record number of 375 doctorates at its upcoming convocation ceremony taking place on Sunday, the largest graduating class in the State of Israel.
Among the graduates, more women than men are to receive doctoral degrees – 205 women and 170 men.
For the first time this year, more women than men are to graduate with a doctorate in the exact sciences: 120 women compared to 104 men.
A total of 224 degrees are to be awarded in the exact sciences, and 151 in other disciplines.
The ceremony, marking the opening of the 76th International Board of Governors Meeting, is to include the granting of the Solomon Bublick Prize and the Samuel Rothberg Prize for Jewish Education.
Honorary doctorates are to be given to recipients including: Chemistry Nobel laureate Prof. Sidney Altman; international entrepreneur and supporter of brain sciences Pierre Falcone; attorney Daniel Jacobson; Jewish studies scholar Prof. Mauro Perani; international business leader Dr. Leonard Polonsky; mathematician Prof. Marina Ratner; founder of the Israel Mental Health Association Chanita Rodney; attorney George A. Schieren; political theorist, philosopher and public intellectual Prof. Michael Walzer; economist and former president of Mexico Dr. Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León; and Israeli artist Moshe Gershuni.
Actress Barbra Streisand is to receive an honorary doctorate in a separate ceremony on Monday.
The 76th meeting of the Hebrew University’s Board of Governors is taking place in conjunction with the annual Presidential Conference, an international event that is celebrating President Shimon Peres’s 90th birthday this year.
