The IDF released footage Monday it says shows three instances in which personnel preparing to strike targets in Gaza aborted their missions due to the proximity of civilians to the targets. The footage is overlaid with radio communications appearing to be communication between aircraft operators and others involved in surveillance of the target sites, who purportedly abort strikes after identifying civilians nearby. On Sunday, the IDF warned residents of the northern border town of Beit Lahiya to evacuate by noon as it planned to intensify air strikes after nightfall against suspected Palestinian rocket launchers among civilian homes.A UN aid agency said around a quarter of Beit Lahiya's 70,000 residents fled, fearing Israeli attacks which, according to Gaza officials, have killed more than 166 people, since the cross-border shelling war began. But other than a lone air strike on farmland outside the town, which the Palestinians said caused no casualties, Beit Lahiya was largely quiet in the early hours of Monday. There have been more than 1,000 rocket launches by Hamas and other factions from Gaza over the past week, Israel says.
