The indigenous peoples of the Caribbean may have just had their hopes met.
They have finally been given a social rights crusader who carries international mettle as a philanthropist and Journalist.
Previously featured here in J Post, the Bahamian philanthropist Adrian Fox has made it his mission to bring the Caribbean's impoverished middle and lower classes struggle to limelight on the world stage, raising awareness, compassion, and money for their recovery.
His efforts center on improving disaster relief as well as curbing economic stagnation that face impoverished inhabitants of the Bahamas, Haiti, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, St. Marten and Beyond.
According to the website for his foundation - the Fox Foundation is "is dedicated to supporting and enriching the lives of Bahamians in the spheres of Education, Youth Development, Community Building and Disaster Relief."
Fox's successful background in developing Bahama's leading gaming and lottery service provided the self-made businessman the opportunity to make a real difference. As his initiatives in the Bahamas grew, Fox however soon realized that his group wasn't doing enough relative to the proportion of disaster and disenfranchisement faced by neighboring communities.
So soon the Fox Foundation started taking on crisis relief projects in other Caribbean Isles, such as the Island of St. Vincent, which Fox goes on to describe in his recent essay in J Post:
“Possessing direct experience of living through a natural disaster, as well as coordinating a response to one, I am deeply attuned to the difficulties facing the people of St. Vincent as they emerge from this crisis. In 2019, our own organization, the Fox Foundation, was involved in taking private vessels to Abaco to assist with the evacuation efforts, as well as partnering with the Buddy Hield Foundation to distribute food, water, and generators to all those affected by the hurricane. It also launched a Go Fund Me campaign to reach donors from around the world, to help with the ongoing devastation that the island still faces today”
Fox's work serves as a critical precedent for establishing more coordinated global relief efforts for tackling the humanitarian issues oppressing the peoples of the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
Hopefully, it will serve as a seminal advancement that will spur other international philanthropists to direct their resources towards these worthwhile causes as well.
