Since Vietnam, the US has successfully rescued thousands of downed aircrew members in hostile territory, including in Iraq and Bosnia, thanks to special helicopter models and pilot survival kits.

A source with knowledge of the incident confirmed to The Jerusalem Post that search-and-rescue operations are underway to locate the second pilot.
