NATIONAL AFFAIRS: Amid the Israel-Hamas war, the government intends to advance a Basic Law to anchor the standing of Druze society in the State of Israel.
“It was important for me to raise the Druze flag,” she said, “in memory of the sons of our community who have fallen in the war."
Israel is the home of all its citizens, and this needs to be clearly stated.
"I believe in Zionism, and I am one of those who established the Druze Zionist movement with other friends."
The three existing sections define Israel as the historical home of the Jewish people and the Jewish nation-state and make national self-determination in Israel exclusive to the Jewish people.
The building plan will see the development of two new neighborhoods and thousands of homes in the Druze settlement of Dalit El Carmel.
The plan is not to amend the Nation-State Law but to legislate a separate basic law that will define the standing of the Druze community.
"Now is the time for the government and the Knesset to initiate a change to the Nation-State Law and repair the historical distortion regarding the Druze community," Sheikh Muwafaq Tarif wrote.
Aside from his soldier duties, Gadban has a family and just welcomed a new baby a month ago. As a member of the Druze community, he shows the diverse backgrounds of those who defend Israel.
