Bowman angered many Jews in his district after Oct. 7 with his harsh criticism of Israel, and pro-Israel advocacy groups poured a record amount of funding into the primary contest.
George Latimer, who entered the race for New York's 16th District following October 7, seeks to oust Jamaal Bowman, who has accused Israel of “genocide," and doubted Hamas sexual violence.
The activists accused Biden of supporting a supposed genocide in Gaza, and said that Ocasio-Cortez, Bowman, and Sanders had tied themselves to that alleged crime.
The Democratic race in this blue district is seen as a bellwether for the clash between centrists who support Israel.
“There’s still no evidence of beheaded babies or raped women but they [Israel] still keep using the lie for propaganda," said the congressman in November.
The endorsement Friday, distributed by Bowman’s campaign, emphasized his local bona fides and did not touch on his condemnations of Israel.
This week, footage surfaced by Politico showed Bowman at a November rally expressing doubt that Israeli women had been raped on October 7, calling the allegations “propaganda.”
The congressman, a vocal critic of Israel, made claims in a resurfaced clip from a November protest saying that there is 'no evidence' of Hamas atrocities and Israel using this 'lie.'
Ben-Ami cited the use of the term “genocide”, which Bowman has used multiple times in the months since the war began, as a breaking point.
The meeting, which his office called “Healing breakfast: Fighting antisemitism and hate,” will be held at Bowman’s office in White Plains on Monday morning.
