Israel Police deputy commissioner Avshalom Peled, nominated last month by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to be the next police commissioner, is now under scrutiny.
Shabtai highlighted the critical role of the police in maintaining national social resilience amid growing disagreements and frustrations.
Dr. Zeev Feldman called on Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai to halt the use of the potentially harmful equipment to disperse demonstrations.
"The police is effectively a militia at the service of Ben-Gvir, we insist that the amendment be appealed."
In a letter to the Attorney General, Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai wrote that Ben-Gvir told him of potential "consequences."
The decision has been deemed illegal by Israel's Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara.
"He is the right man to lead the Israel Police, an officer with rich, professional, and sharp experience."
In a statement, the Israel Police emphasized to the public that the law prohibits disseminating false information.
Video footage of the soldier shooting Castleman after he had surrendered and identified himself sparked outrage in Israel.
Ben-Gvir wrote to the Police Commissioner and admitted "It is true that this is an underground wing, the conditions in which are not among the best, but the conditions..comply...with the law."
