A meeting between US and Iranian officials in Istanbul is seen as a best-case scenario, sources familiar with the plans said.

The message a number of countries have delivered to Iran, according to one of the sources, is: “Act rationally. Give President Trump something so that war can be avoided.”

Per the WSJ, Iran's rival Gulf states have largely avoided addressing the protests that have spread across Iran since late December, leaving thousands dead.

Most of these countries have already dealt with the 624 days of crisis that Hamas's October 7 massacre caused. They want regional stability and peace. 

The Iranians conveyed a message to the Qataris on Wednesday, who, together with the Omanis, are trying to mediate for a ceasefire.
